Tutorial - Submitting A Deadline Job From Maya

This tutorial will show how to submit a Deadline Job from Maya. While some portions will be Maya specific, the general flow of submission can be applied to other applications that Deadline supports.

Launch The Submission Script

After you have created and saved your Maya scene, you can launch the submission script by clicking the button in the PrimeFocus shelf in Maya. If you don't have this shelf, see the documentation on Setting Up The Maya Submission Script.

After clicking the button, the submission dialog will appear.

Configure Your Job Options

There are many job options you can configure, which are explained in more detail in the Maya Plugin Documentation. For the purposes of this tutorial, we will just cover the most important job options:

  • Job Name: This is the name of your job, as it will appear in the Deadline Monitor.
  • Pool: This will be the pool that the job will be submitted to. Pools can be used to split up your render nodes into groups to maximize the efficiency of the farm. See the Pools Documentation for more information.
  • Use Machines In Pool Only: If checked, only render nodes in the selected pool will render your job.
  • Priority: A value between 0 and 100 which represents the priority of your job in the queue. 100 represents the highest priority.
  • Frame List: This is the list of frames that Deadline will render.
  • Task Group Size: Deadline jobs are split up into tasks, which are dequeued individually by the render nodes. This setting represents the number of frames per task.

After you have set these settings (and any other settings you see fit), your job is ready to be submitted.

Submit Your Job To Deadline

Simply press the Submit Job button to submit your job to Deadline. Once the job is submitted, a message box will pop up showing which files were submitted with the job, along with the job's ID.

Now that your job has been submitted, see the Deadline Monitoring Tutorial for information on how to monitor and control your job.
