Remote Access
There are many applications which allows you to remotely control another computer. The following integrate seemlessly with Deadline, which allows for effortless remote access to desktops across your render farm.
Virtual Network Computing (VNC)
Virtual Network Computing (VNC) is a desktop protocol to remotely control another computer. It transmits the keyboard presses and mouse clicks from one computer to another relaying the screen updates back in the other direction, over a network.
There are many options available for VNC software. TightVNC, RealVNC, and UltraVNC have all been used successfully with Deadline.
You can configure the VNC settings in the Repository Configuration Options, which can be accessed from the Deadline Monitor in Super User mode by selecting Tools -> Configure Repository Options.
The VNC settings include:
- Allow VNC Connections: Whether or not direct VNC connections should be allowed via Deadline Monitor.
- VNC Password: The plain text password for VNC. If left blank, the user will be prompted for the VNC password.
- VNC Port: The port on which VNC listening is done on the slave machines (default = 5900).
- VNC Viewer Executable FileName: The local path to the VNC executable on the slave machines. Use a semicolon to separate alternative paths.
Remote Desktop Connection (RDC)
With Remote Desktop Connection (RDC), you can easily connect to a terminal server or to another computer running Windows. All you need is network access and permissions to connect to the other computer.
You can configure the RDC settings in the Repository Configuration Options, which can be accessed from the Deadline Monitor in Super User mode by selecting Tools -> Configure Repository Options.
The RDC settings include:
- Allow Remote Desktop Connections: Whether or not direct RDC connections should be allowed via Deadline Monitor.
- RDC Executable Filename: The path to the Remote Desktop Connection execute. If left blank, the executable in the Windows system path will be used.
- RDC Settings Storage Directory: Where the RDC settings files should be stored. If you are unconcerned about security, you could specify a shared network path.
Remote Administrator (Radmin)
Remote Administrator (Radmin) is fast, secure and affordable remote-control software that enables you to work on a remote computer in real time as if you were sitting in front of it.
You can configure the Radmin settings in the Repository Configuration Options, which can be accessed from the Deadline Monitor in Super User mode by selecting Tools -> Configure Repository Options.
The Radmin settings include:
- Allow Radmin Connections: Whether or not directRadmin connections should be allowed via Deadline Monitor.
- Radmin Port: The port on which Radmin is listening on the slave machines (Default: 4899).
- Radmin Viewer Exectuable Filename: The local path to the Radmin executable on the slave machines. Use a semicolon to separate alternative paths.
